Resolute Forest Products provides indispensable products for basic human necessities like shelter, personal care and education, and we contribute to the health and welfare of our society. Leveraging modern practices, we steward renewable, sustainable, fossil-free resources; seek resource maximization and waste minimization through integration and innovation; and play an important role in fighting climate change.
Our fundamental goal is to generate value for the company and shareholders while driving economic activity in a sustainable and responsible way. Our success supports community economic growth and prosperity, social well-being and advancement, as well as shared environmental benefit.
Our sustainability strategy, based on a balanced approach to environmental, social and economic performance, is designed to enhance our competitive position, ensure the responsible management of resources in our care, and generate positive socio-economic impacts. Aligned with the principles of the circular economy, the strategy is supported by public commitments under four pillars:

As a company managing the natural resources in our care, we recognize that our operations have a direct and material impact on the environment, biodiversity, economy and social fabric of the communities in which we operate. At the same time, sustainability trends at both the macro and micro levels are rapidly impacting the business landscape. We have continued to raise the bar on our sustainability reporting efforts and, since 2010, we have prepared reports in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines for sustainability reporting, and since 2018, in accordance with the GRI Standards.
The GRI standards are some of the world's most broadly accepted guidelines for comprehensive sustainability reporting, providing a robust framework to support clear reporting processes, linking the indicators we measure to shared priority issues identified by stakeholders, and targeting our outputs to address the concerns and interests of all interested parties, as well as our strategic partners. Some visitors to our site may find it useful to use the GRI Index to find management disclosures and data on specific indicators. The compliance of our 2020 sustainability reporting was verified in June 2021.
Our sustainability strategy also aligns with the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, focusing on ending global poverty, protecting the planet and achieving shared prosperity for all. In 2021, we committed to integrating eight of the 17 SDGs into our sustainability reporting. Our UN SDGs page outlines how we are aligning our sustainability performance with the relevant SDG targets.
Our sustainability reporting also follows the Value Reporting Foundation's Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Standards for forestry management and pulp & paper products.
We are delighted that others have noticed our substantive sustainability accomplishments. Details on the organizations that have recognized Resolute over the past year alone are available in the Awards and Recognition section.
