Grenada Mill Named Top Energy Performer
In June 2016, Resolute’s Grenada (Mississippi) newsprint mill was recognized by the Tennessee Valley Authority as a leading performer for achieving the most kilowatt hours saved in 2015 among its directly-served customers. The team at Grenada saved 32,000,000 kWh through its thermomechanical pulp inter-stage screening project, a three-year initiative that, to date, has saved a total of 85,100,000 kWh (about the same as the total electricity used by 8,800 homes in a year) and qualified the mill for $8 million in TVA incentives.

The Engineered Wood Association Safety and Health Award
Wood products facilities rewarded for safety performance
Our Resolute-LP Larouche and Saint-Prime (Quebec) joint-venture engineered wood facilities were honored by APA – The Engineered Wood Association with a 2015 Safest Company Award. Larouche and Saint-Prime have been injury-free for over six and eight years, respectively. APA is a non-profit trade association that represents U.S. and Canadian manufacturers of engineered wood products. Its safety and health awards program – one of the foremost in the North American engineered wood industry – encourages and recognizes safety and operational excellence.

The New Economy Clean Tech Award
Resolute wins again for best forestry and paper solutions
In June 2016, Resolute’s sustainability leadership was recognized by The New Economy – a quarterly technology, business and finance magazine. The publication awarded Resolute with its Clean Tech Award for Best Forestry and Paper Solutions. This is the second time Resolute has won a Clean Tech Award (the first being in 2014), which recognizes companies whose ideas, achievements, projects and solutions reflect innovation, long-term vision and leadership. The magazine highlighted Resolute’s achievements in a number of areas, including: a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2000; investing in cleaner energy with 72% of total energy needs now from renewable sources and 78% from biomass; 100% responsible forest management certification and 100% chain of custody certification; partnerships with Canada’s First Nations and Aboriginal communities; world-class safety performance; and the successful launch and growth of Resolute’s Align™ brand of eco-efficient, budget-friendly papers.

Recycling Coalition of West Virginia Recycling Champion
Fairmont pulp mill honored for paper recycling efforts
On April 20, 2016, Resolute’s Fairmont team was recognized by Marion County in West Virginia for being a recycling leader. The mill partners with the Marion County Solid Waste Authority to recycle paper in all county schools, arranging for each school to receive compensation for the paper collected. There are now bins at 13 schools, and in 2015, the program recycled 59 short tons of paper. The Recycling Coalition of West Virginia recognized both the Fairmont mill – and General Manager Brian Wilmoth – for these efforts and for making significant contributions to the local community.

Resolute wins international award for excellence in sustainable forest products
In April 2016, Resolute was recognized for being a champion of innovation and excellence in the forest products sector, representing The Americas category in this international competition and winning an Excellence in Sustainable Forest Products Award. In conferring this award, the judging panel highlighted Resolute’s leadership in several areas, including: 100% sustainable and responsible forest management certification and 100% chain of custody certification; world-class safety performance; ongoing reductions in environmental incidents; early adoption of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 framework; an impressive 70% greenhouse gas emissions reduction since 2000; and continued expansion of consultative and commercial partnerships with Canada’s First Nations and Aboriginal communities.
